Onchocerciasis Disease and tips on how to treat

Description:
Onchocerciasis is an infection of Onchocerca volvulus roundworms. The infection is transmitted through the bite of blackflies (Simuliidae family of black flies that live in rivers). The flies bite an infected person and bring prelarva worm called microfilarie. In the human body, prelarva later developed into adult worms.

After mating, adult female worms release microfilariae can be up to 1000 eggs a day. This worm is moving in our bodies and when they die causing a variety of conditions, including blindness, skin rashes, sores, itching and other skin diseases.

Symptoms:
These symptoms occur when the worms die. Their deaths can cause itching. Besides the rash appears and finally reddish skin thickened, rough and wrinkled.

Treatment:
In some countries, onchocerciasis has been controlled through spraying with insecticides. In addition, treatment goals adalalah reduce symptoms and reduce further spread with a single dose of ivermectin given orally and repeated every 6 to 12 months until the symptoms disappear.
